Michael Thompson, CMM

Director of Meeting and Event Services

Michael Thompson, CMM, Director of Meeting and Event Services, previously worked at the National Urban League (NUL) for 12 years, where he served as Vice President, Event Marketing. Prior to that, he spent six additional years at the NUL previously as the Vice President of Conferences. Michael brings a wealth of experience, including experience in some key areas that were a priority for us in this position. That experience includes corporate event planning at SAP America and for the association APICS via his role with ConferenceDirect. His first industry position was as one of the original Sales Managers for the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott.

In addition to his corporate and nonprofit experience, Michael has a background working within the pharmaceutical and high-tech industries. Michael earned his Certified Meeting Management (CMM) designation from Meeting Professionals International (MPI) in the spring of 2019. The CMM program is a three-pronged educational approach, that focuses on business management, leadership, and meeting management.

Dedicated to his professional development, Michael is a member of MPI, the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and the Coalition of Black Meeting Planners.
